A Family That Refuses to Give Up

Two years ago, life changed in an instant for Li Yashen. In December 2023, he suffered a stroke that left him unable to work outside the home. For a father of five and the main provider of a seven-person household, the weight of that moment was immense. Yet what followed was not surrender — it was recovery, adaptation, and quiet courage.

After rehabilitation, Li Yashen was supported through a public welfare position at Songbai Village, earning 800 RMB per month since March 2024. His wife, Zou Jielan, holds the household together in her own steady way — tending to the land, raising chickens, and keeping the family fed and grounded. Together, the couple supplements their income with the household's Class C subsistence allowance of 225 RMB per person per month.

Their five children span an entire chapter of growing up: eldest daughter Li Wanjun is in her final year of high school, younger daughter Li Liuqing is in her first year of high school, son Li Zibin is in the second year of middle school, and two younger children are still in primary school. Five children, five sets of dreams — each one quietly nurtured by parents who give everything they have.

Arriving with More Than Gifts

On the morning of June 19th, Jimmy, Linda, Alex, and their teammates arrived at the Li family home with arms full and hearts open. One by one, the donations were handed over: sturdy backpacks and colourful stationery for the children, water bottles and cartons of milk, trays of eggs, bags of rice and oil, and electric fans to ease the coming summer heat. The 1,500 RMB in cash was presented with care — a practical lifeline offered with dignity and respect.

The children's eyes lit up as they received their school supplies. Li Wanjun, preparing for her college entrance exams, held her new stationery a little longer than the others. It was a small moment, but it carried everything: the hope that hard work would be rewarded, and that someone out there believed in her.

A Kitchen Filled with Laughter

After the gifts were settled, the team did not leave. Instead, they headed to the kitchen. Fresh ingredients had been brought along — and what followed was the kind of afternoon that turns strangers into friends.
